Utah is one of the happiest places, according to the 2020 Happiest States in America survey. The study examined all 50 states across 32 key metrics, ranging from the depression rate and the positive COVID-19 testing rate to income growth and the unemployment rate. “In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted life as we know it, causing sickness, limiting social interactions and leading to widespread job losses,” the study said. “During these trials, which have had a strong negative impact on Americans’ mental health, WalletHub searched for the states where people can stay positive despite the circumstances.” Hawaii ranked No. 1 in the study. Rounding out the top five happiest states were: Minnesota, New Jersey, and Maryland. West Virginia was the least happy state. Utah ranked No. 1 in many of the study’s metrics including: fewest work hours, highest volunteer rate, and lowest divorce rate.
