With fall officially here and the seasons changing, it’s important to protect the biggest investment you have - your home. To help, I put together this list as a reminder so you can prepare your home for the colder months ahead.
Lawn - fertilize grass, drain irrigation system and outdoor faucets, clear leaves and debris, trim tree branches away from home, and winterize lawn equipment for storage.
HVAC - change air filter, clean and inspect furnace, cover your air conditioner or swamp cooler, and install a smart thermostat.
Exterior - clean gutters and downspouts, inspect roof and siding for damage or cracks, service and clean chimney, and check all windows and doors for drafts or air leaks.
General - check winter tools for readiness, know how to turn off main water valve, test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and have emergency tools and supplies ready.
Don’t forget to take the proper safety precautions and hire a professional if you’re not comfortable doing some of these jobs.
